Pandemic diary – April 2022 (actually its second and third decade)

Tuesday, 12 April 2022
500,000,000 infections worldwide. At some parts of the world do not pretend it is all over…
Worldwide, the 7-day average number of new infections drops below 1,000,000, for the first time since 27 December 2021.

Friday, 15 April 2022
In its pursuit of pretending the pandemic is over, Poland switches to weekly reporting of new cases and deaths. Worth noting hospitalizations were also be reported weekly from the beginning of April, but so far nobody bothered to prepare such a report.

Monday, 18 April 2022
The 7-day average of new infections in Poland declines below 1,000. Given scant testing and the fact data come from Easter Sunday (the reporting is continued despite the promise to cease it on daily basis), reliability of the stats is questionable.

Tuesday, 19 April 2022
The 7-day average number of new infections in Poland bottoms out (for a while) at 799.

Tuesday, 26 April 2022
The 7-day average number of new infections exceeds (due to base effect) 1,000 for a day. Dumping backlog inflates also the 7-day average of new deaths in the UK which reaches 324 (vs. 291 in the peak of Omicron wave in mid-January 2022), the highest since late February 2021.

Note: I am off for holidays next Sunday. A proper coverage due on the last Sunday of May.
